Desktop Companion
A downloadable companion for Windows
Welcome!
This is a virtual pet that walks around and keeps you company right on your desktop.
You can pet it, feed it, play with it and more (coming soon)!
This is a little game thing we started working on a few months ago because we had an idea for something that we haven't really seen done well before. Please leave us some feedback as we are actively working hard on it to release a full version full of features soon!
Currently only supports 64-bit Windows. Sorry everyone else. We'll probably get to adding support for other systems one day.
Other notes:
- The pets you can currently have are a dog, a cat, or a slime.
- This is very, very early in development, so expect there to be bugs. That being said, the only reason we are releasing this so early is so that we can get feedback, so please let us know if you have any!
- Some of the features don't work yet because we haven't implemented them.
- In order to switch pets, open the menu (right-click the pet, then click the orange button with three white lines). Then, click "beta test" and restart the game. After you do that, if you click the profile button in the menu you should be able to see and activate any of the other pets.
- We have a lot more interactivity and other content planned for the future. The focus of the game will be taking care of, playing with, training, and growing your companion.
Current Version: Beta 1.3
With this version, we have:
- "Beta mode" which allows you to switch between pets without having to reinstall the entire app :O
- Custom boundary for pet (including support for additional monitors)
- More pet interactions and behaviours (feeding, improved petting, etc.)
- Improved client and menu visuals
- Various bug fixes (but we probably also introduced some new ones)

Install instructions
- To install, simply double-click the setup exe file.
- Your antivirus may get upset as you download/install. We do not know how to stop that from happening yet, but we promise it isn't a virus (not that a stranger's promise counts for anything).
- When you try to run the app for the first time, it may ask you to install something called a dotnet (or .net) runtime if you don't already have it. The link takes you to the Microsoft website and is 100% safe. It is just a bit of software that allows your computer to run our app.
- To uninstall, go to the installation location -- the default is something like: C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Local\Programs\Desktopet or, alternatively, you can right-click on any shortcut you have and select "open file location." Once you are in the folder, double-click the "unins000.exe" thing. That will cleanly uninstall all the files (except the save files, which you can delete manually if you would like).
